Validator Economics

Staking, consensus, and earnings for Herald Network validators

Validator Economics

Understanding the Herald Network Validation System

Validators ensure tool quality on the Herald Network by assessing outputs and reaching consensus. In return, they earn a share of all tool payments.

Economic Overview

The 10% Validator Pool

Validators collectively receive 10% of all tool payments, distributed based on stake weight and reputation.

Component Share Recipient
Creator 70% Tool builder
F3L1X 20% Platform
Validators 10% Quality assurance

Why Validate?

Benefit Description
Passive Income Earn from every validated tool invocation
Capital Efficiency Lock periods multiply your effective stake
Network Participation Shape quality standards for the ecosystem
Governance Rights High-reputation validators influence protocol

Staking Mechanics

Requirements

Parameter Value
Minimum Stake 10 USDC
Maximum Stake Unlimited
Currency USDC on Base L2
Gas Costs ~$0.001 per transaction

Lock Period Multipliers

Lock your stake for higher rewards:

Lock Period Multiplier Example: 100 USDC Stake
None 1.0x 100 weight
1 Month 1.5x 150 weight
3 Months 2.0x 200 weight
6 Months 3.0x 300 weight
1 Year 5.0x 500 weight

Higher weight means a larger share of the validator pool.

Reputation System

Validators start at 500 reputation (Neutral tier) and move up or down based on voting accuracy.

Reputation Tiers

Tier Score Benefits
Elite 800-1000 1.8x selection boost, governance rights
Trusted 600-799 1.4x selection boost, priority tasks
Neutral 400-599 Baseline selection rate
Learning 200-399 Reduced task assignment
Probationary 0-199 No task assignment

Reputation Events

Event Impact
Correct vote (aligned with consensus) +10
Incorrect vote (against consensus) -25
Fast response (within 5 seconds) +2
Abstention -5
Streak bonus (10+ correct) +5

Consensus Mechanism

The Herald Network uses 2/3 majority consensus:

  • 3/3 Agreement — Clear consensus, all validators rewarded
  • 2/3 Agreement — Majority wins, minority penalized
  • Split Vote — Disputed, escalated to additional validators

Voting Criteria

Criterion Weight Question
Accuracy 40% Is the output factually correct?
Completeness 25% Does it fully address the request?
Format 15% Is it properly structured?
Safety 20% Does it avoid harmful content?

Risk Management

Slashing

Incorrect votes result in stake slashing:

Violation Slash Rate Cooldown
Single incorrect vote 5% of stake 24 hours
Multiple violations (3+) 10% of stake 48 hours
Suspected collusion 25% of stake 7 days
Confirmed malicious 100% Permanent ban

During cooldown, you cannot receive new tasks but can still earn from pending validations.

Earnings Projections

Assumptions: 100 USDC stake, 1-year lock (5x), 5% network share, 95% accuracy

Monthly Network Volume Validator Pool Your Share APY
$10,000 $1,000 ~$47/month 570%
$100,000 $10,000 ~$475/month 5,700%
$1,000,000 $100,000 ~$4,750/month 57,000%

Note: Returns vary significantly with network volume and your accuracy.

Comparison to Other Staking

Protocol Typical APY Risk Level
Herald Network 100-1000%+ Medium (slashing)
Ethereum 2.0 4-5% Low
Solana 6-8% Low
Cosmos 15-20% Low

Validation Strategies

Conservative

  • Only vote on clear-cut cases
  • Abstain on ambiguous outputs
  • Target 99% accuracy
  • Lower earnings, near-zero slashing risk

Aggressive

  • Vote on all tasks
  • Accept 5-10% error rate
  • Higher earnings, some slashing events
  • Requires active management

Getting Started

  1. Wallet Setup — Install MetaMask or Coinbase Wallet with Base L2
  2. Registration — Register at f3l1x.tech as a validator
  3. Staking — Choose stake amount and lock period
  4. Validation — Monitor for tasks and vote within deadlines
